A 17-year-0ld boy is under Dagana police custody for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl. The case was reported to police on 18th September.

The incident took place at around noon when the mother of the victim was on duty. She works in one of the schools.

According to the mother, the victim was with her stepfather when the incident occurred. The suspect, who is their neighbour, came to their house that day and when the stepfather was busy with the household chores the suspect lured the girl to come along to a shop, a few metres away from their house.

The mother said her husband saw them coming back together from the shop. She added the suspect has threatened to beat her daughter if she talked about the incident to others and was also bribed her with a packet of noodle. Upon investigation, they found she was bleeding and her face was also scratched. The girl reluctantly told her mother about how she was raped by the suspect. They informed the police, and she was then brought to Dagapela hospital on the same day. She was kept in the hospital for a night under observation and was discharged yesterday afternoon.

The police are investigating the case.
