The Bhutanese U16 football team are currently in Qatar to take part in the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers which will begin from tomorrow.
The 2020 AFC U-16 Championship is an international men’s under 16 football competition which will decide the participating teams of the 2020 AFC U-16 Championship.
According to the draw which was held on 9th May at the AFC House, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Bhutan were put in Group E of the AFC Junior meet along with Yemen, Qatar and Bangladesh.
The boys will be guided by their Technical Director, Vaithilingam Subramaniam as the head coach Nakamura could not travel with the boys after suffering an injury.
“The boys had a training session yesterday and they were so overwhelmed by the covered stadium especially the weather is excellent inside. So we enjoy the same weather in Bhutan. So I am sure the boys will enjoy the games as well. I think the boys are in their tender age of fifteen and we don’t want to put too much pressure on them. We will be very pleased if we improve our performances and put up a good game against the three opponent that we face,” said Vaithilingam Subramaniam, the Technical Director for Bhutan Football Federation.
All the 47 AFC member Associations are taking part in the competition and divided into 11 Groups. In each group, various teams will play each other once at a centralised venue. The eleven group winners and four best runners-up will qualify for the final tournament.
Bhutan will begin their campaign of the qualifiers by facing Yemen at the Aspire Dome in Doha, tomorrow.
