The 5th national book fair in Monggar was well received especially, by schools in the six eastern dzongkhags. More than 250 schools in the six dzongkhags availed the opportunity to participate in the fair and buy books for the school libraries.

The principal of Chali Lower Secondary School in Monggar said the fair is helpful as it offered a wide range of books. There is a vast difference between the books supplied by the government and taking part in this kind of fair as schools have a choice to buy books based on the requirements of the school, said principal Singye. .

Hundreds of students and parents also visited the fair. There is not a single book store in almost the eastern dzongkhags. “Sometimes teachers ask children to buy a particular book but in the absence of a book shop, it was really difficult, said a parent Bishnu Pradhan,

As many as twenty book shops participated in the fair. Some, said business wasn’t as profitable as compared to earlier fair. A similar book fair will be organized in Bajothang, Wangdue Phodrang sometime next month.
