A fire this morning razed two traditional single-storey houses and six huts to the ground, and partially damaged a three-storey house building at Changgedaphu in Thimphu.

It also burnt an Alto car parked next to the structures.

According to a witness, the fire broke out at around 4:30 am and it took four hours for the firefighters to contain it. The disaster affected 14 families including the house owners, and most of them lost all their belongings to the fire.

On behalf of His Majesty The King, the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon visited the site and handed over the Royal Semso to the affected families.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
