Need LPG distributor agent in Senggye Gewog

The people of Senggye Gewog in Sarpang say there is a need for a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distributor agent in their gewog.  At present they have to travel either to Gelegphu or Sarpang to refill their LPG cylinders.

Gelegphu is about 50 kilometres away from the gewog, while Sarpang is 15 kilometres away.

The Gup of Sengye Gewog, Lachuman Rai raised the issue in the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT). He said that the LPG distributor remains mostly out of stock and people after travelling for hours, mostly have to return empty-handed.

“ A truckload of subsidised cylinders last only for a day. Our people go to get the refilled cylinders without any idea of the stock available. If we have an LPG agent for our gewog with an allocated quota, it would help to resolve the issue.”

The Regional Trade and Industry Office in Gelegphu said that they are ready to issue a licence for LPG agent including for the non-subsidised LPG cylinders.

“We are supplying LPG cylinders with close consultation with BoD management to all the 12 gewogs. Those who can afford should go for non-subsidised LPG cylinder because they no longer have wait in a queue or need a token. Also, it available all the time,” Karma Drukpa, the Regional Director, said.

Senggye Gewog with 289 households has a total population of 1,767.
