Monggar dzongkhag education sector will now have its own data of schools, teachers and students. The education sector developed an e-Portal system for database management and information.

To acquaint with this system, a two-day orientation program was conducted at Drametse Central School. More than 40 administrative assistants including a few principals attended the workshop.

With the new education database management and information system, one can access students, teachers and school profiles in the district. Also, information on the dzongkhag’s ECCD and Non-formal Education (NFE) can be accessed through the system.

One of the important features of this system is a class teacher do not need to prepare a separate mark sheet for their students, it will be automatically generated from the system. The teacher just needs to enter the marks in the database. Both parents and students can also view their marks from the data system.

“In fact, we also like to call it M-Sherig e-Portal. Now, it will be convenient for schools and also for the education sector to run the education program. With this, we are going to go paperless and it’s very systematic and whatever data you want for the education sector can be taken up from e-Portal system” Wangchuk, the Chief DEO said.

The system was developed by former Information and Communication Technology Officer of the dzongkhag in 2012. But it could not be launched earlier due to objections from some relevant stakeholders.

Participants also welcome the new initiative.

“Till now, all works have been done on papers. Henceforth, we will be able to do it paperless. Whatever the information required can be accessed from the system,” Ugyen Yangzom, the Administrative Assistant of Lingmethang LSS, said.

“This database will give us proper information of each and every student and schools to plan and work out in terms of financial, human resources and any future programmes in schools,” Tempa Dorji, the Principal of Kalapang PS, said.

The database system is also expected to be cost-effective, user-friendly and more efficient. And if the system is proven successful, such an idea is will be replicated in other dzongkhags as well.
