The government of India will support the Royal Government of Bhutan in realising its dream of establishing a multi-disciplinary super-specialty hospital. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi confirmed this in a press statement at Semtokha Dzong today.
“My friend Dr Tshering (Lyonchhen) had told me during our first meeting that providing good health services to the common man was one of the key objectives of his motive behind entering politics. I would like to assure you that India will offer all possible help and support to fulfill his dream of having a multi-disciplinary super-specialty hospital in Bhutan,” said Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India.
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also announced that the 253-year-old statue of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel at the Semtokha Dzong will be loaned to Bhutan for another five years. The statue has been loaned to Bhutan by India in 2016. The six feet statue came into the possession of British officer, captain Hadyat Ally during the duar war that Bhutan fought with the British in 1864 and he later donated it to the Asiatic Society in Kolkota.
Bhutan was also assured of increased post-graduate scholarship intake at the Nalanda University from two to five.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said India will increase the supply of subsidized Liquefied Petroleum Gas from 700 metric tons to 1000 metric tons per month to help provide clean energy to the villagers.
