Bhutan all set for PM Modi’s visit

Bhutan will receive Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for state visit tomorrow. An official statement from the Foreign Ministry stated that the country is now all set for the Prime Minister’s two-day visit. It will be his second State visit after his first visit in 2014. This time he is visiting Bhutan at the invitation of the Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering.

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering, Foreign Minister Dr Tandi Dorji, Economic Affairs Minister Loknath Sharma and senior government officials and officials from Indian Embassy will receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Paro International Airport tomorrow.

The statement stated that the visit is a clear reflection of the importance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attaches to relations with Bhutan and strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that exists between the two countries.

According to the statement, during the visit, the Prime Minister will receive an audience with His Majesty The King. His Majesty The King will host a luncheon for the Prime Minister and his delegation day after tomorrow.

The Indian Prime Minister, during his visit, will inaugurate the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydroelectric project, South Asia Satellite, and RuPay Card. Further, several Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) will be signed between the two countries. It includes MoU on Aircraft accident and investigation between the aircraft investigation unit of the government of India and the Ministry of Information and communications amongst others. There will also be agreement signing on Power Purchase Agreement for Mangdechhu and agreement between the Royal University of Bhutan and some of India’s leading universities.

There will also be talks between the two Prime Ministers on all aspects of bilateral relations and international issues of mutual concern and interest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also meet the Opposition Leader, Pema Gyamtsho (PhD).
