First-ever Futsal tournament, for children under 14, in Zhemgang is underway and about ten teams are participating in the tournament organized by Zhemgang Youth Center supported by the business community of Zhemgang.

The winners will be awarded trophies and cash prizes.

Local spectators or sports enthusiasts of Zhemgang said this is the only entertainment that Zhemgang residents could enjoy and kill the boredom since no other sporting activities are conducted in the dzongkhag.

However, dzongkhag officials said after 17th August, series of sports will take place in the dzongkhag.

A group of women sports enthusiasts said till date Zhemgang is totally idle compared to other dzongkahgs and sports committee of Zhemgang should also organize for women in the dzongkhag to combat boredom at home. Their time is passed watching TV at home, which is also disrupted time and again by the erratic weather.
