The shortage of safe drinking water is yet another major issue in Phuentshogling town. And the Rinchending area is the worse hit, with a water crisis for years now.

Located three km away from the town, the Rinchending Goenpa has been facing water shortage for nearly eight years now. The goenpa has over twenty monks and receives hundreds of visitors on a daily basis. According to the lam, the shortage of water makes it difficult to maintain hygiene.

“The water problem here is not a new issue. It’s been seven to eight years now. Sometimes, we don’t get water for a month, sometimes for a week. When we ask thromde, they supply the water in their tanker. We have nearly 20 households in this campus and even a tanker of water is also insufficient,” Lam Karma said.

According to the thromde, the water problem started after many constructions came up in recent years with the construction sites using the same water source. With only one source for these areas, the water is insufficient.

However, going by the thromde’s plans to address the situation, the water problem isn’t going to be an issue in the near future.

“We have already started to execute our plan to solve the water issue. We have already augmented the reservoir tanks and are in the process of distributing the pipes. We are doing these in that area only to solve the water crisis in the Rinchending,” the Thrompon Uttar Kumar Rai said.

The thromde expects to complete the works in two months. Also, the thromde has already allocated over Nu 25 M for the augmentation works and procurement of pumps in all the local area plans for this financial year.

“As a part of the flagship programme, we got over Nu 26 M to survey, design and estimate Amochhu treatment plant, Om Chhu treatment plant and Barsa treatment plant in Pasakha. Now, we need to hire a good consultancy,” the Thrompon added.

Once the flagship programme is over, to execute the works, the thromde has over Nu 235 M.  After these projects, Phuentshogling thromde will then receive a continuous supply of clean water.
