The Central Regional Referral Hospital in Gelegphu is seeing several problems with its structures in about a  year since its inauguration. Excessive sweating and leakages from air conditioning machines have reportedly damaged the ceiling in several rooms of the hospital.

The hospital was inaugurated on July 31, last year.

With cracks reported on its walls earlier this year, the ceilings in several parts of the hospital are now in need of repairing. Around 43 locations have been identified by the hospital where ceilings have suffered damage from water leakages and leakages with the air conditioner machines.

Residents of Sarpang claim this to be a result of poor quality of construction.

“It has been almost a year of its construction. The structure looks good from outside but inside it suffer leakages of water from ceilings,” Dorji Tshering, a resident, said.

“The damages pose threats to the people’s life,” Ugyen Wangchuk, another resident, said.

The officials from the Health Infrastructure Development Division of Ministry of Health say that they have already notified the contractor to rectify the problem. The maintenance works are underway since June 12 and are expected to complete by October this year.
