Following the successful initiation of Moenlam Chhenmo in all the districts, Menjong Choethuen Tshogpa, a religious association was dissolved upon a directive from the Secretariat of His Holiness the Je Khenpo. The Tshogpa was formally called off on the June 27 through a public notice.

The establishment of Menjong Choethuen Tshogpa in all the dzongkhags started in 2003. But now with the dissolution of the Tshogpa, the Secretariat of His Holiness the Je Khenpo also announced that offering and collections of donations in the name of the Tshogpa should not be entertained.

Laytshog Lopen Sangay Dorji of the Zhung Dratshang said the association was called for dissolution to avoid task duplication.

“Moenlam Chhenmo Tshogpa can perform the task that Menjong Tshogpa had been carrying out. We don’t see the need to have two Tshogpas for organising Moenlam Chhenmo.”

Besides the initiation of the Great Prayer ceremony in all 20 districts, the Association’s biggest achievements include the construction of a Chenrezig Lhakhang in Trongsa, which was offered to His Majesty the King, and the construction and handing over of the Buddha Dordenma at Kuenselphodrang in Thimphu to the Zhung Dratshang.
