More than 200 students from different schools in Thimphu are attending a Dharma Camp at the Institute of Science of Mind (ISM) in Simtokha. The camp according to the institute is to help students understand human values through religious messages.

The sessions at the camp include talks on Buddhism, lessons on our history, culture and tradition, and will be taught on various Buddhist practices.

“It is also to keep the students meaningfully engaged during their summer vacation. These young students are vulnerable to drugs and alcohol, so our main aim is to keep them engaged by introducing them to religious practice,” Pema Wangchuk, the coordinator, said.

He added, the institute got positive feedback from former participants.

“The former participants of Dharma Camp said that the camp has really changed their lives.”

He said that officials from different organisations will also give talks on specific topics at the camp.

More than 600 students have already attended the programme to date. The two weeks long camp is supported and funded by Dratshang Lhentshog.
