Chhoeki Dorjee, who was popularly known as Migoe, well known and admired by basketball enthusiasts in the ’80s and ’90s, has passed away. Migoe, an ex-armed forces personnel, was at least 6 feet four, and a member of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s basketball team. He passed away at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) on June 27.

At 25, Migoe was recruited into the armed forces. He served in the Royal Body Guards throughout the ’80s and ’90s, while also excelling at sports, and being an inspirational figure, especially for younger athletes.

Being uncommonly tall made him stand out, and his athletic skills earned him great popularity especially among basketball fans. Besides basketball, he also played volleyball and was a skilled boxer.

According to those who knew him, he was sincere, dedicated and hardworking, and a loving friend, husband, and father. His friends claim that Migoe may have been the tallest person to have served the armed forces.

On his passing, people from all walks of lives, including those who played basketball with and against him, and those who watched and admired him, remarked on the passing of an iconic figure. Migoe was 65 years old.
