To mark the 60th Birth Anniversary of Her Majesty Gyalyum Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck, the Bhutan Nuns Foundation held a prayer ceremony at the Tshalumaphey training and resource centre for nuns. June 21st will be commemorated as Bhutan Nuns’ Day from this year on.

21-nuns from Pema Shedrub Choeki Gatsheling Shedra in Bumthang performed a Tshogkhor at Tshalumaphey, for Her Majesty’s long life and wellbeing, as well as for the wellbeing of the King and people of Bhutan, and all sentient beings of the world.

According to Dr Tashi Zangmo, the Executive director of Bhutan Nuns Foundation, annual prayer ceremonies and dharma talks will be held to mark the day. The Bhutan Nuns Foundation also organized dharma talks by nuns at the temple in Tshalumaphey. Devotees and those who were working on the construction of the site attended the talk.

The Bhutan Nuns Foundation was founded in 2009 under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Gyalyum Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck. The Foundation seeks to help in making nunneries leading agents and self-reliant institutions for women. The Foundation is currently undertaking the task of constructing training and resource centre for nuns at Tshalumaphey. The project which began in 2014, is expected to complete by June 2021.
