Local government leaders’ workshop for the Tshogpas of Monggar dzongkhag at Sherubtse college in Trashigang ended yesterday. Tshogpas feel that since they are the person who deals directly with the people, such training are essential in serving the people and needed it as soon as they assume the post.

The week-long workshop was more of interactive sessions. Sessions included how to conduct meetings, knowing about you and others and problem-solving. Some of the sessions include games whereby they are taught on leadership qualities. Though it was a fruitful training, participants felt they should be given such workshops as soon as they take over the post.

“It has been almost 2 and a half years since serving as Tshogpa. Should we have got the training earlier, we could have served the people in a better way. From this training we got skills, which are important in our society,” said Sonam Dema, tshogpa of Tsenzabi_Masangdaza, Saling Gewog.

“From this training, we knew what is leadership and how we should coordinate with people. By this October, we will be serving for 3 years. If we got this training earlier, it could have helped us in dealing with the people and solving the problems. Moreover, it could be helpful in bringing developmental changes in our society,” added Jigme Tenzin, tshogpa of Gyalpoizhing_Wangling chiwog, Monggar Gewog.

The leadership workshop for two batches of Tshogpas of Monggar Dzongkhag was funded by Monggar Dzongkhag and resourced by Sherubtse College.
