Bhutan won the 5th International Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship and India won the 4th International Poomsae Championship. Both the finals were played yesterday at the swimming pool complex in Thimphu yesterday.

230 participants from four countries took part in the tournament held over a period of three days. Players from Nepal, Malaysia, India and Bhutan competed with each other in various categories of Kyorugi and Poomsae tournament.

“The objective of this type of tournaments is to provide exposures for our players. It will be expensive for us to send them outside so we invite players from outside whereby our all players get to play with them and gain experience,” Dema Wangchuk, the Technical Director of Bhutan Taekwondo Federation (BTF), said.

The tournament was organised by Thimphu Taekwondo Federation in collaboration with Bhutan Taekwondo Federation.

Dema Wangchuk said the federation also hopes to win medals in upcoming South Asian games, which will be held later this year. Bhutan reached till quarterfinals in the last Asian Games.
