After having been born, sickness in one’s life becomes inevitable. Only through a balanced diet and healthy lifestyles, one tries to keep it at bay. Yet, it’s only through sensitization by health and other relevant stakeholders that the rural people are reminded of such measures.

Recently in one of such sensitization programmes, some of the gups of Tsirang stated that gewogs should construct recreational facilities in remote as well to enhance a healthy lifestyle.

“We see some people living idle at home; they don’t have company or anyone to look after them. The other family members go to work. So they are left alone. So I feel out of loneliness they drink alcohol and get addicted and then they suffer from so many psychological and mental health disorders,” Beda Mon Chamlagai, Gup, Kilkhorthang Gewog, Tsirang, said.

Recreational facilities are only found in the core town area, people young and old use it to stay fit. While in the village level it is only through farm works and other chores that they exercise and maintain their physique. However, for the elderly, gewogs saw the need for facilities such as open gym and prayer wheels among others in the community.

To address the health issues of remaining physically fit, five teams from Tsirang dzongkhag comprising of resource personnel from the law, Health and other relevant stakeholders visited 12 gewogs in Tsirang recently.

The team sensitized on Health related issues including HIV/AIDS, Domestic Violence and prevention among others.
