A 78 year-old man was killed by an elephant in Khameadthang, Phuntshothang Gewog, Samdrup Jongkhar yesterday at around 4pm.
According to villagers, the victim encountered the elephant on the way to tether his cattle which was beyond the solar electric fencing area.
This is the first case reported of elephant killing a human in Samdrup Jongkhar this year and it has left villagers in Phuntshothang Gewog worried. Last year wild elephants killed two men in Samdrup Jongkhar.
Meanwhile, Samdrupchholing Drungkhag administration, police and forest officials help villagers to chase away elephants whenever necessary.
