As an initiative to preserve and promote the national language and to support the national goal of financial inclusion, the Bank of Bhutan (BoB) launched all banking terminals in Dzongkha today. This according to the bank will make it convenient for those clients who cannot read or write in English.

The BoB is the first financial institution to adopt Dzongkha language in all its major digital platforms including its official website, mBoB and ATMs.

‘As of now, we just have about a hundred thousand plus mBoB clients, in terms of mobile penetration we have about five hundred thousand plus almost about 70 per cent of the population. So we introduce bi-lingual service to reach to all our clients,” Dorji Kadin, the Chief Executive Officer of BOB, said.

“If we introduce this bi-lingual services then we can get a section of society to at least learn about the banking services available.”

The Bank also introduced BoB Smart Key application. With this new service, customers can avail services through a keyboard in any social messaging app without the need for having to login into mBOB application.
