A Bhutanese delegation led by Her Excellency Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo is currently attending the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland. The annual global event that began on the 20th of May will go on till 28th May 2019. The theme for this year’s WHA is “Universal Health Coverage: Leaving no one behind”.

WHA is the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organisation. This year, Bhutan will raise the Regional One Voice (ROV) on “Patient Safety-Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in healthcare settings” on behalf of member-states from WHO’s South East Asia Region. Bhutan will also be supporting ROVs delivered by the other South East Asia Region member states. Besides the main event, the Bhutanese delegation will be attending side meetings with other development partners and international organizations with support from the Permanent Mission of Bhutan.

Her Excellency Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo, apart from heading the Bhutanese delegation, has been elected as one of the five Vice Presidents for the 72nd WHA.
