To harness the potential and benefit of Information and Communication Technology in teaching and learning process, the Education Ministry launched its second ICT Master Plan called iSherig-2 today.

iSherig-2 is one of the strategies in the 12th Five Year Plan to take ICT in education further as a means to improve teaching and learning. The total budget estimated for the implementation of the master plan is Nu 1.7bn.

The ministry through this master plan aims to motivate lifelong learning and make teaching and learning effective. It will also enhance the use of ICT-integrated teaching and learning resources, build competency of educators, learners and supporting staff and strengthen ICT infrastructure and connectivity for better learning and educational services. And the ministry intends to achieve all these through six programmes and 21 projects that will be implemented by all relevant agencies.

The master plan is expected to guide the government’s ongoing investment in education sector over the next five years. iSherig-2 was built upon the recommendations of iSherig-1 carried out by a team of experts from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). iSherig-1 was implemented from 2014 to 2018 to take ICT in schools.

It is also expected to make learners globally competent through the use of emerging and relevant technology.
