It has been a few months since the people of Kharza_Lephu chiwog in Yangnyer Gewog in Trashigang have been facing water shortage. The chiwog was connected with water supply last year but due to a forest fire about three months ago, more than a thousand meters of pipe were burned.

These days’ people of the chiwog are seen working to construct a reservoir in the chiwog. And works to connect the new metal pipes are also underway. After pipes were burned by the forest fire, the Department of Disaster Management provided them with new metal pipes.

“The water pipes at Ngam-Bi-Nang got burned since the water pipes are laid on cliffs not underground. We have received a budget of Nu 600,000 from the Department of Disaster Management and the raw materials have been procured,” Wangchuk, the Chiwog Tshogpa, said.

“It has been more than 4 months now, we are faced with water shortage after the forest fire. With works for the restoration of water supply being carried out, we hope the problem will be solved soon, “Yeshi Chedup said.

But for now, those remaining pipes, which were not damaged, were connected to a temporary source but the water is not enough for the people. They fetch water from the nearby ponds for washing purpose.
