Around 1,000 people including patients at Gelegphu Regional Referral Hospital, students and monks received a free hair cut service as part of the practical training on hairdressing in Gelegphu recently.

31 youths from 11 dzongkhag attended a 10-day hair cutting and dressing training, which concluded today.

The trainer, Ugyen Deepak said he is happy with the participants for being able to provide hair cut service free to the public in a professional way. He also said they did not receive any complaints from the service receivers.

The training was organised by the Department of Cottage and Small Industry (DCSI) in collaboration with the Regional Trade and Industry office in Gelegphu. It was aimed to provide skills on hair cutting and dressing, with a target to create employment opportunities in the CSI.

“Most youths in our country are unemployed due to lack of skills. And not many youths in the dzongkhags take up a hairdressing business. After acquiring skills in hair cutting from this training, they should start their own business,” Tshesum Dawa, the Chief Industry Officer of DCSI, said.

Meanwhile, the participants said the training has been beneficial for them. And some of them are now planning to open their own business.
