(Windstorm damage update)
Dzongkhag officials led by the Wangdue Phodrang Dzongda are still assessing and inspecting the houses which were damaged by the windstorm on Saturday. As of now, roofs of about 40 houses in Wangdue Phodrang, and 13 in Punakha, were reportedly blown-off by the windstorm.

The Wangdue Phodrang Dzongda, Lhendup Wangchuk, said insurance reports are yet to be submitted. He added the officials as of now could not carry out all the verifications as to whether the affected people paid their insurance on time or not.

“From our estimates about six households have sustained 100 pecent damages and the rest houses varied from 30, 40 to 50 percent and the total insurance claim we have staked with the RICBL is Nu. 1,59,000,” said the Dzongda.

He said of all the Gewogs, the worse affected was in Bajothangu Chiwog under Thedtsho Gewog. He said reports are still coming in from the Gewogs. “The number of CGI sheets that are required to be replaced is 376 CGI sheets and also some 745 CFT of timber. Instructions are already passed to rebuild the roofs of the damaged houses.”
