A forest fire has been raging on for the third day today in Monggar. It started from Resa in Saling Gewog and has spread to Kengkhar and Jurmey Gewogs now.
The fire started around 6 pm day before yesterday. Our reporter Thukten Chophyel says the extent of damage could not be confirmed at the moment but a large area of forests has been damaged.
The Senior Forest Ranger in Gyalpoizhing range said it is difficult to control the fire due to strong winds and steep terrain.
The Ranger of the Forest Management Unit Range in Lingmithang said the fire could be started by falling boulders as no people go to that place due to the steep terrain.
Meanwhile, the motorists are advised not to travel along the Gyalposhing-Nanglam highway as it is risky due to the falling boulders.
