Windstorm causes havoc in Wangdue and Punakha

A strong wind storm in Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha caused major damages this afternoon. Roofs of over 13 houses were badly damaged in the two Dzongkhags. There are no reports of casualties as of now.

However, our reporter Kinzang Thinley who is in Wangdue says, about 70 people are seeking temporary shelters in Thedtsho Gewog.

The Thedtsho Gup, Phub Namgay, said about 11 houses are severely damaged. “We have pitched tents and most of the people are kept outside. One cannot step in those damaged house. As of now there is no casualties reported except for some elderly people faced difficulties to get out of the house.”

Meanwhile, the Barp Gup, Wangchuk said as of now, there is no report of any casualties in his Gewog, except for damages of roofs of some houses. “I couldn’t go to all the chiwogs personally as I am still visiting the Chiwogs, which are badly affected. Two houses in Yetsokha Chiwog are badly damaged beyond repair but the rest are not so badly damaged,” said the Gup

The scale of damage is yet to be ascertained.
