The annual Jana Chidoe Kurim began from today at Pangrizampa Druk Phodrangdhing College for Astrology in Thimphu.

The nine-day ritual is performed for the wellbeing of all sentient beings and for the peace and prosperity in the country.

The prayer ceremony is presided over by the former Yangbi Lopen Sangay Dorji with over 200 monks from Pangrizampa College for Astrology.

“As per the astrology, after 41 years of Buddha’s demise, Buddha was reborn as Lord Manjushri at Jana Rewo Tsenga. After that, the King of Jana Kongtse performed the ritual to ward off disasters of four natural elements and the ritual came to be known as Jana Chidoe,”Phurba Dorji, the teacher of Pangrizampa Druk Phodrangdhing College for Astrology, said.

“People should come to offer prayers for the well being of our Monarchs and the country. If one is able to attend the ritual, it will help in cleansing their misfortunes for a year. Also, it will not be necessary to conduct any rituals in their home.”

The college first conducted the Kurim in 2002 at Dechenphodrang in Thimphu. The kurim is then conducted annually from 2004.
