The government says the development of Suung-Joen app is on the track. The prime minister at the recent meet the press session said while the mobile app is ready but a proper assessment on the operation of the app is yet to be finalized.

To develop the Sung-Joen app is one of the government’s 25 pledges to be implemented in 120 days. The app, according to the government would enable Bhutanese to communicate freely without the need to spend money to recharge mobile vouchers.

“We took more time since it will have more benefits if it is developed well. We could not complete in 120 days as we did not really push this because we needed consultations with experts. We would have done it easily but we have to consider both of pros and cons,” Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said.

The  Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has held consultations and completed all preliminary works such as determining system requirements and specifications for both the app and free WIFI hotspots.

The government says the ministry is now working on calling tenders and ascertaining the exact budget. However, the government did not confirm its launch date.
