The formation cutting of the Ossey bypass road between Gelegphu and Zhemgang is expected to be complete by next month. The department of roads (DoR) began constructing the 4.4-kilometre bypass road from last month.

Ossey, which is 26 kilometres from Gelegphu towards Zhemgang has been a major concern for the commuters, as it remains blocked most of the time with frequent landslides during monsoon.

The ministers for Work and Human Settlement and Information and Communications visited the ongoing construction site on March 3.

The Director-General of DoR said they began constructing a new bypass after their study found out that the old route is geological unstable.

“We would like to make the bypass road pliable when the existing road is blocked in monsoon by landslides. We are confident that we will have the bypass ready,” Tenzin, the Director General of DoR, said.

The project worth about Nu 179 M is executed through a project tied assistance grant. To ensure timely completion, the DoR is managing the traffic follow at the site by allowing the vehicles at certain hours of the day.
