The new Resident Representative of UNDP Bhutan, Azusa Kubota presented her credentials to the Foreign Minister Dr Tandi Dorji yesterday.

The new resident representative is from Japan and holds a master’s degree in International Affairs in Economics and Political Development.

She is the first Resident Representative of UNDP in Bhutan after the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution on Repositioning of the United Nations Development System.

Later in the afternoon, the resident representative Azusa Kubota also called on the Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering.

She congratulated the newly elected prime minister and said she is looking forward to working together with the Royal Government to help achieve Bhutan’s development goals.

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering thanked UNDP for its continued support and said he looks forward to continuing the partnership with UNDP even after Bhutan graduates from the Least Developed Country rank.

The UNDP has been supporting Bhutan since 1973. The Country Office in Bhutan was established in 1979.
