Three local products of Pema Gatshel were officially launched and recognised as the ‘Produce of Dungsam Pema Gatshel.’ The Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector launched the products coinciding with His Majesty’s 39th birthday.

The identified products are sugar cane jaggery known as Tsatsi Guram of Nanong, fermented soya bean cheese of Dechenling and cassava flour of Chhoekhorling Gewog.

“With the identification as products of Dungsam Pema Gatshel, it will not only help in promoting the products but also distinguishing them from other similar ones,” Tashi Phuntsho, the Dzongkhag Agriculture  Officer, said.

The agriculture sector supports the farmers in producing the products by providing them with the required machines and training.

“People will now be familiar with our products, which will help in marketing. They will be aware of a cassava flour production project in Chhoekhorling Gewog. Hopefully, we will be able to export our products to India as well,” Sangay Zangmo of Green Hill Firm in Chhoekhorling, said.

People of Pema Gatshel have been producing sugar cane jaggery and fermented soya bean cheese for a few years now.

However, the commercial cassava flour production in Chhoekhorling started last year after forming a farmer’s cooperative.
