Three national scout leaders received their first ever gold, silver and bronze medal at the 5th National Scouts Day celebration in Trongsa today. The medal is awarded in recognition of their active service to the scouting movement in the country.

A teacher from Sarpang Central School, Vandana Gurung was awarded the gold medal. The gold medal is awarded to an adult member of Bhutan Scouts Association (BSA) in recognition of continued active service in all levels to the scouting movement.

Kinzang Wangchuk, a teacher from Laptshakha Primary School in Punakha received a silver medal. The medal is awarded to an adult member of the association who actively served in scouts for more than ten years.

Similarly, five years of bronze service award is presented to Tenzin Wangchuk, a teacher at Samteling Primary School in Sarpang.

Henceforth, such awards will be presented annually.

The members of BSA from various districts marked the day in Trongsa.

The scouts’ day is observed every year coinciding with His Majesty’s birthday since 2015. Scouting started in Bhutan in 1996 upon the command of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Today there are about 55,000 scouts in the country.
