Information and Communications Minister, Nandalal Rai, formally inaugurated the much-awaited second international ICT service gateway at Gelephu telecom Office, today. The gateway at Gelephu will complement the only international gateway at Phuentsholing, to help provide better and reliable internet services in the country.

During the inauguration, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bhutan Telecom, Nidup Dorji, said the new international gateway will enhance the ICT services in the country.

The second international gateway connectivity is a crucial initiative taken by the government, to establish more reliable international connectivity for the ICT sector in general, and particularly, for the first IT Park of Bhutan.

Lyonpo Nandalal Rai, said ICT is a dream come true. “The ICT is the dream and vision of our people and request media personnel to create awareness amongst the people.”

The 50-kilometre Optical Ground Wire fiber network between Gelephu and Bagaigon, Assam, was carried out by the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Meanwhile, the Department of Information Technology and Telecom is trying to work out on Telecom cost, as it is crucial for the operations and sustainability of the ICT services. This will help bring down the cost of ICT connectivity in the country.
