His Majesty promotes chief of police and appoints new secretary for MoWHS

His Majesty The King promoted the Chief of Police to the rank of Brigadier this morning. His Majesty also appointed the new secretary for the Works and Human Settlement Ministry, the new Pema Gatshel Drangpon and granted dhar to the new gup of Samkhar Gewog in Trashigang.

The Chief of Police, Chimi Dorji, is promoted from the rank of a Colonel to a Brigadier. He assumed the current post in 2016. Brigadier Chimi Dorji started his service in the Royal Bhutan Police in 1985. The 59-year-old is a recipient of the Light Treasure of the Armed Forces medal.

57-year-old Chencho Dorji is the new secretary for the Works and Human Settlement Ministry. The former Director General of Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority joined the civil service in 1985. He also served as the Director General and Director for the Department of Youth and Sports.

His Majesty also appointed the new judge for Pema Gatshel. Drangpon Tenzin has a Masters in Law in International and Comparative Law. He started his career as a legal officer for RENEW in 2008. Prior to his current appointment, he worked with the Bhutan National Legal Institute.

Jamyang, the new Gup of Samkhar Gewog in Trashigang, also received dhar from His Majesty the King today. The 32-year-old has a bachelor’s degree in Arts from Kalimpong Government College, India. Before contesting for the gup’s post, he worked as a Sales Executive for the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan. He also participated in the National Council Elections last year.
