The Fifth Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition (RBFE) will be held in Samdrup Jongkhar. The exhibition will open on 21 February coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty The King.

Preparations for the exhibition is going on in full swing.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest and a local committee chaired by the Samdrup Jongkhar Thrompon, various agencies from government and private sector, business community and armed forces are working to develop micro garden in strategic location.

The stakeholders will develop 15 micro gardens in 9.75 acres.

Headed by the Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde, the committee planted 1710 saplings of plants and flowers around the town today. His Majesty granted the saplings of the plants as Soelra to the Thromde.

“We had our first stakeholders meetings in June last year and have been preparing for the exhibition since,” Thrompon Karma Sherab Thobgyal said.

“Over the last seven months, together with the stakeholders, we have prepared all the areas to keep it ready for the flower plantation. Other activities are also going on at the same time and everything will be ready by end of this month,” he added.

Samdrupjongkhar was chosen as the venue for the Fifth RBFE in light of the historic and geographic importance of the border town, which serves as one of the gateways to the country.

Besides promoting local economy in floriculture and supporting small businesses through the event, the flower exhibition also aims to stimulate town beautification.

In line with this aim, the work for the flower exhibition includes preparation of the main site, as well as development of permanent gardens throughout Samdrupjongkhar town to add to the beauty of the Thromde.

The Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition was initiated in 2015 upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King.

“Where we live must be clean, safe, well-organized and beautiful; for national integrity, national pride and for our bright future. This too is nation building,” was His Majesty message on the inauguration of the 1st Royal Bhutan.

Thus, the RBFE is envisioned as an event, which would foster an appreciation and pride in the community for aesthetic spaces that are well cared for, resulting in the development of beautiful towns and cities in the country.

It also aims to promote local economy, boost tourism, and encourage local businesses in floriculture.
