A lone adult black-necked crane was spotted near Ingo Village in Haa in the late afternoon yesterday.
This is the first time a black-necked crane was sighted on the ground in Haa valley.
According to a researcher with the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER), there are evidences of the endangered bird using Haa as their flight route to return to Tibet from Jhomolhari.
But it is less common to see them on the ground, he says. It is probable for a crane to settle on ground if it is cloudy and the route is not clear.
Yesterday, when the black-necked crane was spotted, it was partly cloudy in Haa.
The researcher says if the habitat is favorable, cranes may come in the future.
The Jigme Khesar Strict Nature Reserve (JKSNR) is monitoring the lone crane in Ingo.
