The Bhutan Trust Fund for Environment Conservation (BTFEC) has signed eight environment related projects worth over Nu 77 M with various agencies and ministries on Friday.
One of the projects is with the information and communications ministry. The ministry will install additional and new electric vehicle charging stations in Thimphu and nearby dzongkhags to promote sustainable transport system.
The BTFEC has also approved grant for three projects proposed by the agriculture and forests ministry.
One of the projects will see the ministry embark on a journey to create clean, green and beautiful urban spaces for sustainable development.
The agriculture and forests ministry will also work on sustainable management of non-wood forests products and its commercialization, and strengthening of forest fire management through a participatory approach.
The Royal Society for Protection of Nature’s (RSPN) project to conserve the critically endangered white-bellied heron has also been selected.
The trust fund also approved a grant of Nu 14 M for strengthening and promoting glue laminated timber technology. The Royal Academy in Paro will execute the project. There are plans to replicate the project across the country in the future.
The BTFEC also approved grant for Tashichoedzong Garden Project and Dhop Shari Gewog in Paro. Dhop Shari becomes the first gewog to receive project grant from BTFEC.
The gewog will use the fund for management of Richulum watershed.
The eight projects were selected from 69 project grant proposals that BTFEC received this year.
The projects are expected to be implemented by mid this year. The maximum project duration is three years.
Last year, the BTFEC provided grant to six projects.
