Lunana is one of the remote Gewogs in the country. It takes 10 days walk from the nearest motor-able road and eight days from Dzongkhag headquarter, that is Gasa. The Gewog remains virtually cut-off from the rest of country for about six months by snow. Mule track being the only route to communicate, the government has given priority to construct all season mule track for Lunaps following the Phochhu River.

Our reporter, Sonam Tobgyel, who followed the track, said that works are progressing well.

“It has reached Gaep–Duen Dra, which is three days walk from Woolothang under Toewang Gewog in Punakha,” our reporter said.

The works are being carried out by two local contractors. However, the contractors said that it is difficult as the routes passes through huge rocky cliffs and rivers. “It demands lots of challenges and getting labour is also difficult,” shared one of the contractors. He also added that the amount rate given to him is also less. “Carrying machines and necessary equipment is difficult,” he said.

Once complete it will immensely benefit the people of Lunaps as they can travel through-out, all season.
