The opening of the Rafey-Koshila bypass in Langthil Gewog, Trongsa is likely to be delayed. This is because of the delay in the completion of the Yurmung Bridge on the bypass.

The bridge is scheduled for completion next month, but the Department of Roads (DoR) in Trongsa is expecting a delay.

“Due to some reasons beyond our control, the Yurmung Bridge is likely to be delayed by two or three months. It will be completed only towards the end of March or April 2019,” Ugen Dorji, the Chief Engineer of Trongsa DoR, said.

The project will also cost the government an additional fund of about Nu 4M.

“The tender amount for the Yurmong Bridge is about Nu 46 M. However, due to increase in the work scope, the contract amount might increase to Nu 50M at the end of the project,” Ugyen Dorji added.

As of last week, only about 65 per cent of the work was complete.

The bridge abutments have been constructed. Erection of steel trust is beginning. Railings and concrete works over the trust would follow next.

The other bridge on the bypass was completed recently.

Once the double-lane bypass opens, the distance from Trongsa to Zhemgang and Gelegphu would be shortened by an-hour-and-a-half.
