Japanese volunteers in the country gathered in Thimphu to commemorate its 30 years of Japanese Overseas Cooperation Volunteers’(JOCV) service in Bhutan.
Since 1988, Japan has been rendering its volunteer services in the fields of agriculture, education, health and constructions. And Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) assures to continue its volunteer services in the country.
Eight more volunteers will arrive in the country by January next year.
“There will be fluctuation in the numbers but we would like to continue a certain number of volunteers’ of around 35 to 40,” Koji Yamada, the Chief Representative of JICA, said.
At present, there are 27 Japanese volunteers working in various parts of Bhutan.
