Dratsangs and Rabdeys across the country lit thousands of butter lamps yesterday to express their gratitude to His Majesty The King for awarding His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Ngagdag Pel gi Khorlo.

His Majesty conferred the medal on behalf of the people of Bhutan at the 111th National Day celebrations in Samtse. It is the highest decoration awarded in recognition of a lifetime of service to the people and Kingdom of Bhutan.

Upon the command of His Holiness, the monk body also performed prayers coinciding with the birthday of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.

In Samtse, the rabdey monks were led by the Laytshog Lopen of the Central Monastic Body.

“On behalf of all the monks, I would like to thank His Majesty for the award. We are expressing our gratitude to His Majesty and His Holiness by lighting thousands of butter lamps and prayers to appease local deities,” Laytshog Lopen Sangay Dorji from the Central Monastic Body said.

He added that the monks remain inspired and further motivated following the recognition award.
