31-year-old Jamyang from Pam was elected as the new Gup of Samkhar Gewog in Trashigang.
He secured 1,249 votes out of the 1,682 votes cast. The other candidate, Sonam Zangpo secured 433 votes. Both the candidates are graduates.
The by-election for the post of Gup was held yesterday after the death of the former Gup.
There are 3,810 registered voters in the gewog.
