The works to lay an artificial turf at the Chamkhar football ground in Bumthang resumed after it came to halt several months ago. The ground was supposed to be ready by September last year.

However, as of now, only about 10 per cent of the works are complete. The works came to a halt after some initial excavation at the football ground. The slow progress of the work has left football enthusiasts in Bumthang frustrated.

Currently, the construction company is carrying out ground levelling works at the site.

The Project Manager of the Indian construction company, Acosa Sports, which is carrying out the construction works, said there were issues with procuring raw materials and renewing work permits for the workers.

“We don’t get any construction materials here. We have to bring all the materials from border towns in Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu, which takes a lot of time,” Amit Roy said.

However, he added that they are trying to complete the works by end of next month.
