The Office of Attorney General (OAG) has charged two men from Lhuentse in a voluntary manslaughter case. The miscellaneous hearing on the case was held in Lhuentse court last Thursday.

Both the men are in their twenties. One of them faces the charge of attempted voluntary manslaughter, while the other is accused of battery.

On the night of 10th September at Budur in Minjey Gewog, a fight broke out between the two over some misunderstanding.

Another man tried to stop the fight when one of the defendants stabbed him from behind. The man was treated and discharged from Monggar hospital after two days.

According to the Penal Code Amendment Act of Bhutan 2011, attempted voluntary manslaughter is a third degree felony and a person convicted of it could get a minimum of five years to a maximum of nine years imprisonment.

Battery is an offence of petty misdemeanor and carries a minimum prison term of one month to one year.

The OAG says the men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. They are also believed to have abused marijuana.
