The seven-day Moenlam Chenmo or the Great Prayer Ceremony presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo in Rajgir, India ended today.

This is the first time that His Holiness presided over a Moenlam Chenmo in India.

His Holiness also presided over the Salang Tendrel or the groundbreaking ceremony for the Rajgir Project.

It includes construction of a temple, a hostel and a guesthouse on an area of 2.8 acres for the Bhutanese pilgrims.

The state government of Bihar gifted the land to Bhutan. It was officially handed over to the Bhutanese government in 2011.

The home and cultural affairs ministry is undertaking the project to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Indo-Bhutan relations.

His Holiness the Je Khenpo arrived in Rajgir on 9 November. Accompanied by three lopens and other senior officials of the Central Monastic Body, His Holiness will leave for Bodh Gaya tomorrow.

His Holiness will preside over a Tshokhor- a spiritual event at Mahabodhi Temple on 21 November. His Holiness returns to the country on 23 November.
