Four entrepreneurs are recognized for their innovation at the Bhutan Enterprise Awards today. The economic affairs ministry says the award is to reward and recognize the contribution of the cottage and small industries (CSI) entrepreneurs to the socio-economic development of the nation.

The woman entrepreneur of the year was awarded to Yeshi Dema, the owner of Hollow Block Manufacturing Unit in Bumthang.

Sonam Chuki, who owns the Gyeltshen Furniture House, was awarded the small-scale entrepreneur of the year while Leki Dawa from E-Waste Recycling Unit of Bhutan Alternatives won the award in the cottage-scale entrepreneur.

Tshering Dema, the owner Incense Production Unit in Samdrup Jongkhar was presented the rural entrepreneur of the year award.

Along with certificates, the winners received the cash prize of Nu 150,000 each.

“It is a very competitive process and we have criteria like corporate social responsibilities, the tax contribution, the products and how enterprising they are,” Thinley Palden, the Chief Industries Officer of the DCSI, said.

Further, to encourage inter-business network and to exchange business related information, entrepreneurs are showcasing their products at the three-day CSI fair, which began today.

More than a  hundred entrepreneurs from across the country are taking part in the fair.
