The Professional Development Centre of the Royal Audit Authority (RAA) in Tsirang was inaugurated yesterday. The consecration ceremony was presided over by Dorji Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang.

The centre is expected to help RAA in building the capacity of the auditors in the country.

It is also expected to fulfil its own requirements to audit and report on economy, efficiency and effectiveness while using public resources.

“We are hoping that with the opening of the institution, it will take us a long way in improving public accountability in the government system,” Tshering Kezang, the Auditor General, said.

Through the centre, RAA aspires to further strengthen the existing system with incorporation of the best international practices and standards.

The centre will soon provide short course workshops and training to the auditors.

It can house at least 120 trainees in four training halls. The centre is a self-catering hostel that can accommodate almost 80 trainees.

It also has indoor and outdoor sports facility among others.

The establishment of the centre was accorded high priority and was endorsed by the then 87th National Assembly of Bhutan in 2007.

The centre was constructed at a cost of Nu 255 M with funds from Indian Government under the Project Tied Assistance.
