The nation will go to the polls on Thursday to cast their votes in National Assembly General Election 2018. Out of 438,663 registered voters, 304,659 are expected to exercise their franchise on the poll day.

A total of 134,004 are registered, postal voters.

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) says all is set for the NA General Election poll day.

“We have finished conducting public debates, the common forum and the door to door campaigns. The refresher courses for election officials were also complete,” Sonam Tobgyal, the Spokesperson of ECB, said.

“Some are already in the field and others will be in their respective polling stations by tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the 48-hour no-campaign period before the poll day and until the close of polls will begin from 9 am tomorrow.

During the period, no one shall publish, broadcast, or transmit any item that is of the nature of election campaign supporting or opposing any political party, according to the ECB Social Media Rules and Regulations of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2018.

The restrictions also apply to internet advertising.

“It is basically for our voters to understand the political parties and candidates to make their choice. In this, 48 hours even the media should be mindful about the news coverage. We would also like to remind the political parties and candidates to be mindful about no- campaign period.” Sonam Tobgyal said.

A total of 865 polling stations have been set up across the country and 5,258 election officials excluding security personnel have been deployed.
