The four-day ENT camp at Punakha District Hospital saw about 900 people, who came to avail themselves of the medical services. Of which, 80 underwent ear surgeries.

One of them is Tashi Wangchuk, who came from Paro after hearing success stories from earlier camps.

“I underwent surgery on Monday and today I came back for review.  The doctors gave me positive feedback and told me to take care of my ears.”

“ I came to the camp last year, doctors then told me there was a hole in both my eardrums and this year, I underwent surgery in my left ear,” Sangay Lham, another patient, said.

The team of medical specialists and surgeons from Thai Friendship Medical Mission to Bhutan conducted the camp, which ended today.

The camp focuses to reach the special medical services to the rural population of the country.

“We are concern about the ear patients, especially in rural areas. I heard there are only five ENT doctors in Bhutan including three who are currently studying in Thailand. I wish there are more,” Dr Chitsuda Wacharasindhu, the Specialist and Surgeon of Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, Thailand, said

The annual camp was organised by the health ministry in collaboration with the Thai Friendship Medical Mission to Bhutan.  The camp was first held in 2010.
